The channel was named after the land of Fadak which was gifted to the mistress of all women, Lady Fatima al-Zahra, (peace be upon her) by the Almighty Allah. When Abu Bakr son of Abu Quhafa seized power (at Saqifah), he usurped the land of Fadak soon after the martyrdom of the holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his pure family).
